What We Treat

RICERP provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary outpatient care for individuals affected by eating disorders, disordered eating, and the psychiatric and performance-related conditions that so often accompany them. Our team of psychiatrists, therapists, and registered dietitians works collaboratively to treat the whole person — mind, body, and performance.

Eating Disorders

Anorexia Nervosa

Characterized by restriction of energy intake leading to significantly low body weight, an intense fear of weight gain, and a disturbance in how body weight or shape is experienced. May present with or without binge-eating/purging behaviors.

Bulimia Nervosa

Recurrent episodes of binge eating followed by compensatory behaviors such as self-induced vomiting, laxative misuse, fasting, or excessive exercise, with self-evaluation unduly influenced by body shape and weight.

Binge Eating Disorder

Recurrent episodes of eating unusually large amounts of food accompanied by a sense of loss of control, marked distress, and the absence of regular compensatory behaviors.

Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID)

A pattern of avoidant or restrictive eating driven by sensory sensitivity, lack of interest in food, or fear of aversive consequences (e.g., choking, vomiting) rather than body image concerns, resulting in nutritional or growth deficits.

Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder (OSFED)

Clinically significant eating disorder presentations — such as atypical anorexia nervosa, purging disorder, or night eating syndrome — that do not meet the full diagnostic criteria for another eating disorder but carry comparable medical and psychiatric risk.

Orthorexia

A pattern of eating marked by an escalating, rigid preoccupation with 'clean' or 'proper' eating that becomes restrictive and impairing. Not yet a formal DSM diagnosis, but a pattern we routinely assess for and treat, particularly among athletes and high performers.

Co-Occurring Psychiatric Conditions

Eating disorders rarely occur in isolation. Our psychiatric team provides integrated evaluation and treatment for the conditions that most commonly co-occur, including:

  • Anxiety disorders — generalized anxiety, social anxiety, and panic disorder

  • Depressive disorders, including major depressive disorder and persistent depressive disorder

  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder and related conditions

  • Trauma-related conditions, including PTSD and complex trauma histories

  • Substance use disorders and co-occurring addictive behaviors

  • Body dysmorphic disorder

  • Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), which can complicate eating patterns and treatment engagement

Performance-Specific Issues

RICERP has particular expertise in the intersection of eating disorders and athletic performance. We work with competitive athletes, endurance sport participants, dancers, and other high performers facing:

Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S)

A syndrome of impaired physiological function — including menstrual dysfunction, impaired bone health, and metabolic disruption — caused by inadequate energy intake relative to exercise energy expenditure.

Overtraining Syndrome

A state of prolonged performance decline and fatigue resulting from an imbalance between training load and recovery, often accompanied by mood disturbance, sleep disruption, and hormonal changes.

Compulsive or Addictive Exercise

A pattern in which exercise becomes driven by rigid rules, guilt, or anxiety rather than enjoyment or physical need, and continues despite injury, illness, or its interference with daily life.

Disordered Eating in Athletes

Subclinical patterns of restriction, food rules, or weight preoccupation common in weight-class, aesthetic, and endurance sports that increase risk for a diagnosable eating disorder if left unaddressed.

Performance Anxiety & Sport-Related Psychological Concerns

Anxiety, perfectionism, and identity strain tied to competition, body composition, and performance outcomes, addressed alongside nutritional and medical care to support sustainable performance.

One team, one plan.

If you or someone you care about is struggling with any of the concerns above, our team is here to help. Contact RICERP to schedule an evaluation.
